Early Language Learners was founded in 2003 by educator
Martha Lewis, who has taught Spanish and English as a Second
Language in the Houston Independent School District for more
than 20 years. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from the
University of Houston.
Growing up in a large, Spanish-speaking community in South
Texas, Mrs. Lewis developed an appreciation for language and
diverse cultures -- an attitude that she is passionate about
fostering in children. She developed the Early Language
Learners curriculum based on her years of language teaching
experience.
"Young children have a natural curiosity about the world, and
they are so open to learning about other cultures and
languages," Lewis explains. "What I love most about teaching is
seeing a child's face light up when he truly understands a new
concept. With the Early Language Learners program, it's a joy to
see how much they enjoy the class and how quickly they learn!"
